Jared Leto Discusses His Career Live on TimeTalks [Event]

JULY 31, 2014

Join us on August 14, 2014 for a live presentation of New York Times Times Talk discussions with Academy Award winning actor and musician Jared Leto as he discusses his multidimensional career. Leto, who won the Oscar this year for his portrayal of a cross-dressing AIDS victim in last year’s Dallas Buyers Club, will shed light into his motivations, inspirations and path for the future. Dignitas News Service, in conjunction with the New York Times and LiveStream TV is proud to invite you to enjoy this event.

In addition to being of one the better American actors of his generation, he is an accomplished musician, as a member of the award-winning group 30 Seconds to Mars, who is performing this summer with Linkin Park. Although a highly sought-after actor, Leto has charted his own career path, seeking quality roles and shooting less movies than both his fans and Hollywood executives would prefer.

He gained high praise for his work in 1997′s underrated murder mystery Switchback and became a household name for his work in Fight Club and American Psycho. His portrayal of a heroine-addicted pusher in Darren Aronofsky’s 2000 cult classic Requiem for a Dream brought him critical acclaim and established him as one of America’s finest young actors. He further impressed critics in his 2009 performance in the little seen but highly praised Mr. Nobody, which preceded his Oscar-winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club.

On August 14, 2014, he will join New York Times contributor Logan Hill for a frank discussion on his past performances, his future acting plans and the direct he hopes for his musical group. Times Talks offer live, online and video conversations between New York Times journalists and 21st-century talents and thinkers.

Jared Leto is a complicated individual, whose views are difficult to pinpoint. Raised for a period in a hippie commune as a child, he has championed causes generally considered to be left of center and in the past expressed support for President Barack Obama, he has also shown himself to go against the grain of liberal Hollywood in a stirring acceptance speech as he received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In his speech, he stressed the importance of family and has been one of the few entertainment celebrities to speak out against the oppression of the socialist Maduro regime in Venezuela, currently embarked on a campaign of intimidation and human rights violations against the citizenry. His speech coincided with the recent imprisonment of Venezuela’s right-of-center opposition leader, Leopoldo Lopez of Voluntad Popular, a cause which has attracted more support from the conservative political spectrum in the US.
